Hummel Collectibles

The history of the Hummel collection is as charming as the figures themselves. They are based on the work of an artist truly inspired, a nun named Sister Maria Siess Innocentia Hummel. Sister Berta Hummel Hummel was born in Massing, Bavaria in 1909 and was a child inquisitive and artistic.

The sisters at the local school room attended by Berta acknowledges that his insightful sketches showed extraordinary talent. When he was twelve, a teacher asked his family to send Berta boarding so that their artistic talents could flourish. Berta Hummel flourished in this context. After studies at the age of 18 years, Berta was sent to Munich, Germany that could be immersed in a more professional arts provision.

Munich is a haven for artists in 1927, and Berta Hummel said in the famous Academy Applied Arts. Although he studied in the classical studies program that included topics such as death, nature, anatomy, and landscapes, Berta continued to draw scenes of joy and innocence whimsical based on his childhood in Bavaria.

Bertha Hummel did not participate in guided activities that most other students of the Academy sought. Rather befriended with two Franciscan nuns who were studying to become teachers. After earning honors in 1931, was offered to the class of the Academy. She entered the convent of the place Siess, and a few years later adopted the name Maria Innocentia.

As always, my Sister Hummel continued to attract children, and soon, his sketch cards emblazoned art and books. The benefits of your work to promote the teaching of the convent and the missionary effort. In short, Munich, Franz Goebel and have done their work. Goebel was the owner of W. Porzellanfabrik Goebel, a company china fame.

Sister Hummel Goebel understood that children's art to be represented as figures of German sympathies during this difficult times. An agreement between the Sister Hummel and the convent, and Goebel was shot. In 1935, Hummel figurines first time at the Spring Fair in Leipzig. Despite being an instant hit in Germany, the beginning of the Second World War imposed severe restrictions on its production.

At the end of the war, however, Hummel Collection began to gather a large number of fans worldwide as soldiers stationed in Germany sent the charming and whimsical figures back to the United States.

Although Sister Hummel died of tuberculosis in 1946, left a vast collection of sketches. It allowed to continue to produce Goebel Hummel figures according to their drawings. Hummel figurines are carefully hand-painted designs following detailed Sister Hummel.

Hummel collection are stamped with a brand that means to be authentic. By year of production, this may include a mark bee, the letter V, or W word Goebel. Each figure Hummel, however, always includes the MI Hummel signature if there is a base or support on which to place it.

Is there a website where you can find information on my Goebel Figurine?

I have a figurine Goebel W in which I would find information more. The figure is a child who plays the banjo. (At least, it looks like a banjo). He is seated sideways on a big comfy chair with your feet outside and there is a dog under the chair.

    Hello,
I have two Hummel Rabbit figurines that were given to me almost 50 years ago. They are just rabbits; no kids. One is a resting white bunny with pink eyes (2 inches high)and the other is a brown bunny sitting up (about 2 1/2 inches high)and scratching behind his ear. They have the V with the stylized bee on the bottom. Very high shine and very realistic looking. I’ve found lots of Hummel rabbits on line but nothing like these. Can send pic if you’d like…
